Portable device for continuous indentation tests
PIT-02

   Application

       The device is intended for indentation of a metal pipe surface  from magnetic and non- magnetic materials in field conditions and the subsequent definition of their mechanical properties. The design of the device includes loading unit which is fixed on a pipe by chains, control and measurement systems, and also the personal computer (Notebook). Loading unit contains the electromechanical motor, the load cell and displacement sensor. The indentation tests are carried out on the selected indentation law with load or displacement (indentation depth) control under single or cyclic loading  Indentation depth and load are measured continuously during the indentation process. The indentation diagram obtained from tests allows to calculate the basic mechanical properties of a tested material (methodology has been developed in the G.S.Pisarenko Institute for Problems of Strength of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine under the direction of  Dr. V.V.Kharchenko, www.ipp.kiev.ua).

Software

The program HardTest 3M provides realization of metal samples indentation in completely automated mode and carries out such functions:
  • Digital indication of measured values: load, displacement, loading rod displacement rate;
  • Programmed protection control for measuring sensors and the machine;
  • Control in a manual mode by the built - in control panel of the program;
  • Positioning and smooth approach of the indenter to tested specimen surface;
  • Input and saving of characteristics of a tested specimen, parameters of indenter and test conditions;
  • Selecting and setting indentation law with load or displacement (indentation depth) control under single or cyclic loading;  
  • Graphic representation of indentation diagrams during test with auto-scaling  in real time;
  • Preview, saving and export of the test results to external programs for the subsequent calculations.
